Hi. I'm Steven Johnson from Michigan Folk Live. I'd like to welcome you to another MichiganFolkLive podcast. This i series of podcasts presented by Michigan Folk Live, features both National touring acts and local Michigan Artists. With this podcast we are going focus primarily on artists who are touring Michigan in December  2007.

John Gorka

This first artist has been a long time favorite of mine. I’ve been fortunate to see him perform several times, and each time was a treat. So you can imagine my excitement when I learned he would be participating in this month’s podcast. John Gorka is a New Jersey born Folk singer who cut his teeth in the coffeehouses and listening rooms of Pennsylvania Boston and New York.
A winner of the Prestige “New Folk” award at the Kerrville Folk Festival. His music is thoughtful, full of humor, nuance, puns and double entendre.

Johns Gorka will be appearing on Friday Dec 7 at The Ark in Ann Arbor and on Saturday Dec 8 at the Howmet Playhouse in Whitehall, MI. Check the concert calendar at www.michiganfolklive.com for details.

Here is John Gorka performing “Road of Good Intentions” from his most recent studio release “Writing in the Margins”.

This veteran Nashville Artist writes and records that reflect the Texas and Kansas prairies he grew up on. He is a talented writer, guitarist, vocalist and performer who has written for and backed some of Nashville’s most prominent stars for 30 plus years.  He is a true American original who left home at 18 with his guitar, cowboy boots and a sack of clothes and found work in the folk clubs of Greenwich Village. I was lucky to catch his recent appearance at Ann Arbor’s Black Crystal Café. He is as warm and genuine as he is talented.

Robert Marr Fenton, MI

This artist is a really wonderful songwriter, the type who makes my job difficult in selecting a single track. After much reflection I finally chose this one. Listen carefully to “Could you Forgive?”

That was Robert Marr performing “Could you Forgive?”

I’m going to dedicate this song to the people of Novi, Northville, Plymouth, Rochester, and Brighton who have seen such a dramatic change in their communities in the last few years. Here is John Gorka performing “Hoses in the Fields" from his CD  “Jack's Crows”.

 Patty Griffin

These is one of my favorite songwriters, has been for a long time. And she just keeps churning out beautiful songs. But when a songwriter friend challenged her to write a happy song she sat down a produced the following tune. I think it’s a good tune to close out the show with and leave everyone on an upbeat. Her is Patty Griffin doing “Heavenly Days”.

Thank you to all the talented Artists who particpated in our podcast!
