Hi. I'm Steven Johnson from Michigan Folk Live. I'd like to welcome you to MichiganFolkLive’s second podcast. This is the first of a series of podcasts presented by Michigan Folk Live, featuring both National touring acts and local Michigan Artists. With this second podcast we are going focus on tartists who are touring Michigan in November 2007.
Laura Bate and Brandon Foote ~ Shenandoah
This next Michigan duo, Laura Bates and Brandon Foote have recently released a wonderful collection of self-penned tunes on their CD titled “Jubilee”. The “Jubilee” CD features guest performances by many talented Michigan Artists many of whom record for the CD’s label Earthwork Music. I think this song and CD has it all, wonderful vocals, insightful lyrics and great musicianship.
Bluehouse
This next group comes to us all the way from the land down under. The Australian duo “Bluehouse” is bringing their wonderful harmonies and Folk flavored Pop melodies to the Ann Arbor Ark on November 1st. It is their only Michigan Concert appearance this year. Please listen to Bluehouse performing “Eyes Closed” from their recent release “One More Kiss”

Diana Jones
I’m really proud to bring you this next Artist, Diana Jones. Diana Jones has been compared many of the top American songwriters today, including Alison Krause, Gillian Welch and Iris Dement. A great song transports the listener somewhere new, to a new location or a new point of view. Diana’s latest CD “My Remembrance of You” is full of great songs.
Diana Jones has only one scheduled Michigan appearance Nov 29 at The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI.
This song “Henry Russell’s Last Words” is the true story of a West Virginia Coal miner who was killed in a 1927 mining accident which claimed 111 lives. As he lay dying, trapped underground he used lumps of coal and scraps of paper to write notes to his family. It’s the story of a Scottish immigrant who worked a dangerous and dirty job to provide a better life for his family. I found this song incredibly moving. I hope you will too.
Jill Jack ~ Roamin ~ Moon and the Morning After
This next Artist is no stranger to anyone familiar with the Michigan Roots music landscape. Jill Jack has been a fixture of the Michigan music scene for over 10 years and has amassed 18 Detroit Music Awards in the Acoustic/Folk, Country and Pop/Rock Categories. This next song has an old-time country vibe that I just love. Here is Jill Jack performing “Roamin’” from her “Moon and the Morning After” CD. This CD won a 2006 Detroit Music Award for “Best Acoustic/Folk Recording.
