Matt Watroba
This Michigan singer songwriter is more popularly known as the voice of Folk Music on WDET. Matt Watroba is the host of WDET’s “Folks Like Us” radio program, and also a talented singer–songwriter.
For The benefit of our listeners not from the Michigan area, let me just share with you that the old “Tiger Stadium, home to the Detroit Tigers baseball organization since 1895 was replaced by a new stadium in 2000. After years of debate about the future of Tiger stadium demolition began July 9th this year as Bulldozers punched a hole in the north wall of the stadium. Meanwhile Tiger stadium fans don’t loose hope, in seems in the 11th hour proponents of plan to preserve parts of Tiger stadium as a baseball museum and youth ball park may have raised the necessary funds to preserve the oldest portion of the park between located between the two dugouts.
Here is Matt Watroba’s song which pays tribute to the old ball park at the corner of Michigan and Trumbell.

Darrell Scott
I always have a heck of a time adding this artist to my podcast because it is so difficult to only choose a single song. His name is Darrell Scott and he is one of Nashville’s finest writer’s and performers and is a frequent contributor on other albums as a studio musician.
Darrell's new record, Modern Hymns, is being released on August 19th. This acoustic folk record will feature Del McCoury, Mary Gauthier, Alison Krauss, and many others! The album is comprised of songs written by some of the greatest songwriters in North American history, including Gordan Lightfoot, Hoyt Axton, Pat Metheny, Paul Simon, John Hartford, and many others!
Hre are two songs by Darrell Scott from his last album. “The Invisible Man”. The first won the 2007 Americana Music association award for song of the year, “Hank Williams Ghost”. That will be followed a song we will dedicate to our outgoing Presidential administration “Goodle USA”.

B.B. Wolfe and MJ Bishop
I just became aware of this south-western Michigan artist, and am I impressed with both his song writing and performing talents. I just love his new CD “Heart Worn Sleeve”. He informed me that two of the songs on this CD are “Answer Songs” or songs written in response to another song. First we will hear “No Stars Tonight” a song written by Seattle artist MJ Bishop on her recent CD “Pull of the Moon”, than we will hear the response song “Song for MJ” written by BB Wolfe from his recent CD “Heart Worn Sleeve”.

Sara Hickman
This Austin based performer has quietly built herself a huge following over the past 11 years she has been touring, writing and performing. Sara Hickman has toured with Nanci Griffith and Dan Fogelberg, appeared twice on the Tonight Show, and hosted her own VH1 special. Live she is an energetic dynamo as you will discover in this live recording done at Stan Garfield’s Northville House concert as she performs “Simply” and “This Too Will pass”.

Mustard’s Retreat
This Michigan duo has long been a favorite of mine, and while they have many, many fine recordings I think their greatest strength is in their wonderful live performances. Mustard’s Retreat has just released a new CD culled from the many fine live performances they have done over the last 30 years. When you’ve lasted that long you must be doing something right.
Here is David Tamulevich and Michael Hough, better know as Mustard’s Retreat from their new album “With Relish” performing “Going Back Ain’t Like It Used To Be”.

Kathy Mattea
Famous for her big hit "Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses," this Grammy Award winner's voice "stands out as a rare blend of warmth and power." Kathy Mattea has a wonderful new CD out called “Coal” that is filled with songs which chronicle life above and below ground in the southern coal towns. This CD strikes me as one of the most personal CD’s that Mattea has released. Both her parents were raised in Coal mining camps and both her grand-fathers were coal miners. This material seem to part of her very DNA. It’s a wonderful CD and highly recommended. Here is Kathy performing “Red-winged Blackbird” from her new release “Coal”.
