Gretchen Peters -

I’m a big fan of Gretchen Peters tremendous song-writing skills and beautiful voice. I was pleasantly surprised recently, to learn that Gretchen is promoting our podcast on her website at GretchenPeters.com. Gretchen was recently named by Country Universe one of the 100 greatest women in Country Music. This week we have added a video of Jimmy Lafave doing a song written by Gretchen to the MichiganFolkLive video page, be sure to check it out. Unfortunately Gretchen’s current touring plans don’t bring her anywhere near Michigan in the next few months. Fortunately you can still hear her right here on the MichiganFolkLive podcast performing “To Say Goodbye” from her latest release “Burnt Toast and Offerings”.

GRETCHEN PETERS: Burnt Toast & Offerings

GRETCHEN PETERS: Burnt Toast & Offerings
"The most sophisticated and truthful recording about love since Nick Cave's The Boatman's Call. It's not the next step for this contemporary singer and songwriter, but a giant leap, an aesthetic milestone."

Chris Smither – Leave The Light On

Twenty years ago this Louisiana singer songwriter was unknown to me, and I learned from a young Ann Arbor couple, that Chris Smither would be the opener that night, as we stood waiting for the doors to open, for a Greg Brown concert at the Ark in Ann Arbor. Let’s just say, in the twenty years since I haven’t missed many opportunities to repeat that experience. Here is Chris Smither performing “Leave The Light On”.

Edie Carey

One of the most time consuming parts of producing an internet podcast is tracking down music and getting the artist’s permission to rebroadcast it. An internet broadcast is governed by different rules than broadcast radio and I literally have to obtain permission to include music. You can imagine how time consuming that is. So it’s a delight for me when the Artists contact me with their interest in having their music included in our MichiganFolkLive podcast. It’s a particular delight when I’m contacted by an artist whose music I respect and admire like this next artist Edie Carey. She was a Troubadour finalist at the 2004 Telluride Bluegrass Festival. She was recently a featured act on Public Radio International’s “Mountain Stage,”. She had shared the stage with Norah Jones, Leo Kottke, Ani DiFranco, Jonatha Brooke, Catie Curtis, and Lucy Kaplansky. You have only one opportunity in Michigan to hear her live in July, Edie will be appearing July 25th at Stage 1210 in Lansing.

Here is Edie Carey performing “Hollywood Ending”.

That was Edie Carey performing “Hollywood Ending” and that was followed by Edie performing “The Night” both are from her newest release “Another Kind of Fire”.

EDIE CAREY: Another Kind Of Fire

EDIE CAREY: Another Kind Of Fire
Carey introduces a slightly moodier - and simply captivating - sound on this, her 4th studio release. Producer Crit Harmon (Martin Sexton, Lori McKenna) paints beautiful, vast landscapes behind her intimate vocals and intelligent, heartfelt lyrics.

EDIE CAREY: When I Was Made

EDIE CAREY: When I Was Made
A lush and intimate new collection of stunning songs from award-winning alt-country/pop singer-songwriter Edie Carey. Find out why CD Baby prez Derek Sivers swears "if Edie Carey was a stock, I'd be putting my life savings there about now."

EDIE CAREY: Come Close (the live photo album)

EDIE CAREY: Come Close (the live photo album)
On "Come Close," Edie Carey invites you to do just that: come close to listen in on some of her favorite folk musical and humorous moments onstage. Includes a 12-page booklet of black & white photos.

EDIE CAREY: Call Me Home

EDIE CAREY: Call Me Home
Award-winning urban folk/pop artist carves her story songs with a diamond-edged blade. You won't be able to get them out of your head, out from under your skin, or the CD out of your stereo.
